“King Of The Hill, Farallon Islands”

Such a proud sea lion, isn’t he? This image was captured mid-afternoon in July 2011, from a boat approximately 100 yards offshore of the main island. Not only are there thousands of sea lions, but there are thousands of birds, as well. Note the white “waterfall” in the background - which is actually guano,  also kindly known as bird droppings.

The Farallon Islands are a federally protected marine sanctuary located approximately 27 miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. All wildlife is protected, and access to the islands is most strictly regulated.
